We are super excited and very proud to be announced as finalists in the Cornwall Live Edge Awards 2018! Our network of community film clubs has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Community/Social use of Digital’ category.

The Edge Awards were set up in 2017 to celebrate Cornwall’s place as one of the fastest-growth areas for digital and tech businesses in the country, and to highlight digital innovation across a number of sectors. The ‘Best Community/Social use of Digital’ category highlights individuals, companies or social enterprises that are using digital to achieve great things for social benefit.

C Fylm has over 32 film clubs in villages all over Cornwall, and screens to over 7,000 people each year. Thanks to a network of committed and enthusiastic volunteers, we bring the cinema to village halls, churches and community spaces. We are all about people coming together to watch great films, at an affordable price, right on their doorstep.

Part of our nomination was for our Cornish Tommies project, which started in summer 2018 with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Film Hub SW and Cornish Mining World Heritage. Cornish Tommies is a short documentary which tells the true story of a young Cornish miner who was called up to serve in the trenches in the last year of World War One. With help from archivists, curators, experts and student volunteers, this film presents the true story of a Cornish mining family caught up in the war. After completing the film in October 2018, we are now exhibiting in communities all over Cornwall. We have also produced a behind-the-scenes VR experience which will be touring our community venues. Find out more and see our screenings here.

Imogen Weatherly, C Fylm project co-ordinator said “We are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for this award. We love bringing communities together through film and we are delighted to have our work recognised in this way.”

The winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony at The Lighthouse Cinema, Newquay on 15th November. Full details on the CornwallLive Edge Awards can be found here.
