Join us at Truro Cathedral on Friday 24th October for a very special screening of War of the Worlds (1953) under the incredible Mars: War and Peace installation by artist Luke Jerram.

War of the Worlds is one of the quintessential science fiction films of the 1950’s, otherwise known as the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Based on the novel of the same name by H. G. Wells, this film keeps the spirit of the book intact.

Nominated for its film editing and sound recording, War of the Worlds received a Special Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for its special effects, including colourful death rays, memorable alien spaceships, and iconic scenes of destruction.

Over 70 years on, audiences can now watch a screening of War of the Worlds on the big screen beneath Mars: War and Peace.

Measuring seven metres in diameter, the artwork features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Martian surface, made from NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter data, Visible Earth series, NASA.

This stunning artwork transports us to the desert wasteland of the Red Planet, to imagine what it’s like to set foot on this incredible planet.

This event also gives you the chance to enjoy the full illumination effect of Mars in the darker, after-hours setting of Truro Cathedral.

There will be two screenings of War of the Worlds:
